In the north of Finland Monday was an important day. It was the first day for many weeks that the sun rised. As you know, above the arctic circle the sun doesn’t come up at all during dark winter weeks.
Here the sun shines almost every day, and I am so grateful for that. And now, in January, you can even find flowers!

Wow, where did you take those pictures? It seems horrible to me to have no sun at all. Here in Holland the sun comes up around 8:30 and goes down at 4:30 on the shortest days. I hate it!
The pictures are taken outside Barcelona, where I work, there is a lovely park there where I go for a walk during lunch sometimes. I really find it difficult to imagine living somewhere like Finland in winter, the lack of sunlight affects the state of mind so much… No wonder the suicide rate is so high..! But the summers and the nights that are so light compensate it at least a little.
